Best Indie & Rock This Month

Violent Femmes at Idaho Botanical Garden

Violent Femmes

As well known for their infamous feuding as for their ground-breaking punk rock work, Violent Femmes have no trouble showing us why they are one of the best acts in punk as they set off on tour across America this year! They became the chosen soundtrack for angsty teens everywhere thanks to irascibly intelligent anthems like 'Blister In The Sun' and 'Kiss Off'. Don't miss these absolute icons of 90s rock!

The Gaslight Anthem at Revolution Concert House and Event Center

The Gaslight Anthem

New Jersey rockers The Gaslight Anthem are back out on the road this summer! Emerging in 2007 with their debut Sink or Swim, it was their follow-up effort The '59 Sound that the band truly came into its own. Topping a lot of critics' 'Best of' lists for 2008, it's still regarded as their finest moment thus far, a wonderfully full-throttle take on Springsteen-Esque Heartland Rock. Indeed, the Boss himself seemed to share this opinion, as he joined the band live on stage at The Glastonbury Festival to perform the album's title track.

Ben Folds at Morrison Center for the Performing Arts

Ben Folds

The frontman of his self-named band, rock artist and producer Ben Folds continues to work with some of the most eclectic names in music and entertainment (remember his Common People cover that featured William Shatner and Bill Clinton?), as well as pushing the envelope on alt-rock ever further. A self-confessed enigma, he prefers to stay out of the limelight except when touring, but can easily claim credit for some of music's most unlikely trends.

Coheed and Cambria at Revolution Concert House and Event Center

Coheed and Cambria

Alternative rock wizards Coheed and Cambria are back and hitting the road this fall. With two major tours this year with Primus and with Incubus, Coheed and Cambria have announced a string of headline shows between July and September. Formed in 1995 in Nyack, New York, the quartet debuted with a bold conceptual vision that fused their pop and post-hardcore-tinged progressive rock with frontman Claudio Sanchez's...

STRFKR at Knitting Factory Concert House

STRFKR

Oregon indie band STRFKR are heading out on an extensive US tour this year to support their album Parallel Realms' out March 1. The band kick things off in California this March, before ending their 4-month stint in Phoenix Arizona. With support from Ruth Radelet and Holy Wave this is shaping up to be one of the most electric tours of the year.

Streetlight Manifesto at Knitting Factory Concert House

Streetlight Manifesto

Forming part of the vanguard of the Third Wave Ska revival of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, Streetlight Manifesto burst out of New Jersey with their own unique Punk spin on the reggae-infused genre. Don't miss the outfit's horn section-laden, upbeat anthems as they hit the road on tour once more!

Paul Cauthen at Knitting Factory Concert House

Paul Cauthen

Texan country rock singer Paul Cauthen is heading out on a brand new tour this summer! Traveling to Atlanta, Houston, Cleveland, and beyond, he reached number 23 on Rolling Stone magazine's top 40 country records back in 2016. Called 'Big Velvet' because of his extraordinary baritone voice, bring along your friends for a toe-tapping night of country rock and roll!
